The Dhaka district administration has officially handed over the remaining 11.40 acres of land to Jagannath University for its proposed second campus at Keraniganj, marking the completion of the university’s total 200-acre land allotment.

The land transfer was completed on Tuesday in the presence of the university’s vice-chancellor, professor Rezaul Karim.


The handover was executed by Md Abdul Halim, land acquisition officer at the Dhaka deputy commissioner’s office, along with other government officials.

An official government order issued on Monday by the land acquisition branch-2 stated that the administrative approval had been granted for transferring 11.40 acres of state-owned land in Paschimdi mauza of Keraniganj under the project titled ‘Land Acquisition and Development for the Establishment of JnU’s Second Campus.’

Amirul Islam, director of the second campus project, said, ‘With the revised DPP approved in July 2024, the construction work of the second campus has now gained full momentum.’

The event was attended, among others, by the university treasurer, Sabina Sharmin, dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Manzur Murshed Bhuiyan, registrar Md Sheikh Gias Uddin, acting controller of examinations Mostafa Hasan, proctor Tazammol Hoque.

The 200-acre land allocation for JnU’s second campus was initially approved during an ECNEC meeting in 2017.

On January 23, 2020, the university received 188.60 acres of land. With this final handover, JnU now fully possesses the entire 200 acres of land, paving the way for comprehensive development of its second campus.
