Most of the partners of Ganatantra Mancha and some other political parties on Sunday at a commemoration meeting called on the interim government to announce a specific road map for next general elections as early as possible.

They also called on the interim government to take immediate steps to hold trial of the fascists responsible for killings of students and people in the July uprising and carry out required reforms to hold free, fair and credible general elections for democratic transition of the country.


Ganosamhati Andolan, a partner of Ganatantra Mancha, a component of six political parties, organised the discussion at the National Press Club to mark the eighth anniversary of death of party鈥檚 first executive coordinator Abdus Salam presided over by chief coordinator of the party, Zonayed Saki.

Saki said that after fall of the fascist Awami League government on August 5, scope was created for democratic transition of the country.

He called on the interim government to announce a specific road map for holding the next general elections as early as possible holding trial of the fascists and implementing reforms of the constitution and ruling system.

Central leader of Ganosamhati Dipok Roy said that in his political carrier Abdus Salam worked for establishing a democratic constitution.

Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq said that now the interim government created a distance with the political parties who extended their support to form the interim government.

He called on the chief adviser of the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, to announce a specific road map for holding next general elections as early as possible.

Abul Hassan Rubel executive coordinator of Ganosamhati said that people of the country were eagerly waiting for implementation of the spirit of the July uprising and the continuation of democratic rule.

Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu chairman of Bhashani Janashikti Party said that most of the political parties demanded holding next general elections by December.

Hasnat Quaiyum, chief coordinator of Rastra Sanskar Andolan demanded that constitution reform and the next general elections be held simultaneously as early as possible.

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD general secretary Shahid Uddin Mahmod Shapon called on the interim government to sit with all political parties to fix a specific road map for holding next general elections.

Jatiya Mukti Council secretary Faiezul Hakim said that the interim government failed to maintain confidence of the people of the country.

Gono Odhikar Parishad general secretary Rashed Khan said that the chief adviser had given misinformation staying in Japan that only one political party demanded the next general elections in December.

Central leader of Ganosamhati Dewan Abdur Rashid Nilu gave introductory speech at the commemoration programme.
