National University held its honours admission test on Saturday in all the educational institutions under it across the country.

The university resumed honours admission test after more than a decade as since 2014 it had been admitting honours students in a merit-based system.

On Saturday, candidates were seen going to the examination centres amid rainfall in different districts.

At some places the candidates were seen taking the test with their feet submerged in water as the rooms became waterlogged.

According to the university, 5,60,595 candidates were scheduled to take the admission test, vying for around 4,40,000 seats. Among the candidates—2,74,718 sat for humanities, 1,17,036 for science and 1,68,841 for commerce.

National University vice-chancellor Professor ASM Amanullah said that the admission test had a turnout of around 95 to 96 per cent.

The test was held between 11:00am and 12 noon at 137 exam centres across the country.

All the exam centres were in the district headquarters.

Candidates were seen taking the test in Comilla Victoria Government College in Cumilla where the ground floor classrooms became waterlogged.

College principal Professor Md Abul Basher Bhuiya told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the college compound became flooded with rainwater from the heavy rainfall on Friday. Rainwater from the adjacent areas also flowed into the compound.

At the eleventh hour it was not possible to change the centre, he said.

At the centre, 81 per cent candidates for science and 87 cent for both for humanities and commerce were present, said the principal.

Admitting that some centres became waterlogged in the heavy rain, vice-chancellor Professor ASM Amanullah expressed his satisfaction at the overall management of the admission test.

While visiting exam centres in Dhaka, he also said that the admission test would ensure transparency and accountability.

Earlier on Friday, the vice-chancellor said that they would consider if any candidate missed the admission in the ongoing inclement weather.

They would try to publish the result after Eid-ul-Azha, he added.

The admission test had 100 multiple-choice questions, 20 each for Bangla, English and general knowledge, and 40 for each group—humanities, science and commerce.

The admission test pass mark is 35, while for the preparation of the final result the results in the Secondary School Certificate and Higher Secondary Certificate examinations will be taken into consideration.
