A week-long photography exhibition titled Ruposhi Bangla began at the National Press Club in the capital on Wednesday.

The exhibition is being organised by the Bangladesh Photojournalist Association.


Social welfare and women and children affairs adviser Sharmeen S Murshid inaugurated the exhibition at West Gallery of the National Press Club while honorary Consul of Cuba in Dhaka Obeid Jaigirdar was present as special guest.

National Press Club president and Kaler Kantho editor Hasan Hafiz, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists secretary general Quader Gani Chowdhury, Dhaka Union of Journalists president Md Shahidul Islam, BPJA president AKM Mohsin and general secretary Babul Talukder spoke at the opening ceremony.

The exhibition displays 91 photographs depicting the geographical beauty of Bangladesh and the lifestyles of its diverse cultures.

Announcing the names of three winners in the photography competition, Sharmeen S Murshid said that brave youths were part of beautiful Bangladesh and their sacrifices and success in recent student-led mass uprising must be recognised.

‘To build a pluralistic Bangladesh, we must ensure protection of women and children,’ the adviser said, adding that everyone, including photojournalists, must work together.

Chittagong-based newspaper Daily Purbadesh photojournalist M Haider Ali won the first prize in the competition while DeshKal News photojournalist Shamsul Haque Ripon bagged the second place and Samakal photojournalist Md Rashed won the third prize.

Photojournalist ABM Rafiqur Rahman, Muhammad Mostafigur Rahman, Shariful Islam, Monirul Alam and Moniruzzaman were the judges in the competition.

Convener of the exhibition and competition Nasim Sikder said that they selected 91 photographs from out of 500 photographs submitted by photojournalists from all over the country.

Curator of the exhibition and convener of the souvenir publication, Md Saurav, said that the selected photographs would be displayed at the BPJA office in the Purana Paltan area in the capital.

The exhibition will end on June 3.
