The Border Security Force of India pushed 113 more people into Bangladesh through the borders in Jhenaidah, Habiganj, Moulvibazar and Habiganj between Sunday afternoon and Monday.

Of them, 54 were pushed through two border points in Jhenaidah, 21 through one border point in Moulvibazar and 19 each through separate points in Habiganj and Khagrachari, according to the officials of the Border Guard Bangladesh and the police.

With the latest push in incidents, the number of people pushed into Bangladesh by India since May 7 has crossed 800 though the BGB and the police took tight security measures along the border.

The Indian BSF and Navy began pushing people, including Indians and Rohingyas, into Bangladesh on May 7.

Indian BSF pushed 54 people, including 19 women and 24 children, into Bangladesh through Kushumpur and Benipur border points under Maheshpur upazila in Jhenaidah district at about 4:00pm on Sunday, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Jashore reported, quoting a BGB-58 Battalion press release issued on Monday.

The BGB handed over the women and the children to a non-government organization, Justice and Care, for shelter, the release added.

Muyeed Hossain, an official of Justice and Care, alleged that the victims were tortured by the BSF and Bharatiya Janata Party activists in India.

BGB 58 Battalion assistant director Mohammad Saiful Islam said that the pushed in people had been living in Haryana and Gujrat states in India.

The BGB detained 21 people, including six women and eight children, who were pushed into Bangladesh through Matherbol border point under Kamalganj upazila in Moulvibazar district on Monday morning, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in the district reported.

The incident took place at about 8:00am on Monday, said BGB officials.

BGB 46 Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel ASM Zakaria said that the detainees would be handed over to Kamalganj police station.

Responding to a question over India’s push in along borders at a press briefing at the Army Headquarters in Dhaka Cantonment on Monday, Bangladesh Army’s operations director Brigadier General M Nazim-ud-Daula said that such actions were ‘neither acceptable nor desirable’, United News of Bangladesh reported.

‘Currently, BGB is tackling the matter effectively. However, if necessary or if directed by the government, the army will also intervene. Still, this kind of situation is highly undesirable,’ the UNB report quoted him as saying.

Responding to a question at a press briefing at the foreign ministry on Monday about India’s claim of verifying over 2300 Bangladeshi citizens staying illegally in India, foreign ministry acting secretary Md Ruhul Alam Siddique said that they were verifying the identities of the persons on the list.

‘We are verifying the list and it’s a lengthy process to ensure the identities. We will send back the pushed in people, verified as not Bangladeshis, following due process,’ he said.

In the early hours of Monday, the BSF pushed 19 people, including nine women and two children, through Kalenga bordering point under the Chunarughat upazila in Habiganj district, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· staff correspondent in Sylhet reported.

BSF pushed them into Bangladesh at about 4:00am on Monday and BGB personnel of the Kalenga border outpost rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the news of pushing 19 individuals by the BSF and detained them, said local people.

BGB 55 Battalion (Habiganj) assistant director Habibur Rahman told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that he along with the Chunarughat upazila assistant commissioner (Land) Habubur Rahman reached the spot after receiving the news.

He said that the people, who were pushed in by the BSF, are inhabitants of Phulbari and Nageshwari upazilas in Kurigram district and they had been working in a brick kiln in the Haryana State of India for a long time.

‘BSF on Monday early morning pushed them after opening a door of the barbed wire along the Kalenga border point,’ BGB officer Habibur stated, referring to the detainees.

He said that the detainees were handed over to Chunarughat police station to take necessary steps.

At least 19 more people including women and children were pushed into Bangladesh by the Indian BSF through Khagrachhari border early Monday, United News of Bangladesh reported.

These people reportedly went to India’s Haryana State in search of job earlier.

However, law enforcement agency officials detained them there and brought them to South Tripura to push them through Mahalchhari border of Khagrachhari.

The BSF members pushed them at about 3:30am through the Feni River while the BGB took them in their custody and kept them at a local government primary school.

Matiranga upazila nirbahi officer Manjurul Alam said that they were verifying the identities of the detainees.

According to the BGB, it has detained 614 people from numerous border areas in districts, including Khagrachari, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Feni, Cumilla, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur and Panchagarh, since May 7.

According to Bangladesh authorities, Bangladesh has 4,156 kilometers of border with India, of which some 180 km fall on water bodies over various parts of the country and 79 km on the Sundarbans.
