The government is likely to withdraw 129 cases filed against forest dwellers, including national minority people at Madhupur in Tangail.

Environment, forest, and climate change adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan made the announcement at an event while planting saplings in the Telki area of Madhupur under the Tangail forest department as she inaugurated a tree plantation programme in Tangail on Sunday.

About 5 lakh saplings will be planted under the programme formally inaugurated by the adviser Rizwana by releasing balloons in the public service square in front of the Tangail district commissioner’s office and planting two saplings in the public service square.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, she urged all to stop disturbing the nature as it is difficult to bring back the nature’s natural state.

‘We have to take the initiative to bring it back for our own benefit,’ she said, adding that the selected saplings under the programme are local trees.

She stated that the initiative would not only make the area green but also it would also provide oxygen, reduce pollution and provide shelter to birds.

Rizwana also emphasised the need for involving the new generation in the nature-friendly development process.

Tangail deputy commissioner Sharifa Haque, superintendent of police Mizanur Rahman and forest department officials were present at event.
