Fisheries and livestock adviser Farida Akhter at a programme in Dhaka on Saturday said that the next generation would move forward with the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

‘As Nazrul is part of our life and part of national consciousness, the next generation will move forward with the national poet,’ she said while addressing the programme titled Gahi Samyer Gan on the occasion of the 126th anniversary of birth Kazi Nazrul Islam at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh.

Pointing out that youths, inspired by Nazrul’s songs, took to the streets in the July-August uprising, Farida Akhter said that although young people were not deeply aware of the poet, they had shown that there was no alternative to Nazrul.

Nazrul’s rebellious poems and songs have been played across the country in the uprising. Nazrul’s rebellious attitude has also inspired young people, she mentioned.

With the support of Radiant Care, the weekly Shampratik Deshkal and the online news portal DeshKalNews organised the programme to spread Nazrul’s communist thought, creativity and courageous attitude among the new generation.

Presided over by editor of Shampratik Deshkal and DeshKalNews Eliash Uddin Palash, Radiant Pharmaceuticals Limited chairman Nasser Shahrear Zahedee was also present at the programme.

‘We all know that in our country, a group of people try to keep Nazrul backwards for various political and other reasons. Now the situation has changed somewhat due to the July-August uprising,’ mentioned Eliash Uddin Palash.

Nazrul researcher and teacher Taha Yasin discussed the life, literary work and social look of the national poet at the programme.

Renowned artists Shaheen Samad, Ferdous Ara, Nasheed Kamal, Yusuf Ahmed Khan, Priyanka Gope and Bijan Mistry were present on the occasion. The poet’s poem was also recited by the recitation artiste Tito Munshi at the programme, which was moderated by Shanta Jahan, said a press release.
