Social welfare and women and children affairs adviser Sharmeen S Murshid has said that collective responsibility is crucial to prevent violence against women and children.
She made the remark while speaking as chief guest at the exchange of views meeting titled Her Dignity, Her Rights: Unit for Stopping Violence Against Women and Children at the conference room of the Bangladesh Tourism Corporation at Agargaon in Dhaka on Thursday, said a press release on Friday.
She has also mentioned that the Quick Response Team of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and the social workers of the Ministry of Social Welfare are working swiftly to prevent violence against women and children and ensure the rights of the disadvantaged groups of society, especially women and children, up to the marginalised level of the village.
Pointing out that Bangladesh is a signatory to the ‘Convention on the Rights of the Child’ to protect the dignity and rights of women and is committed to achieving gender equality according to the Sustainable Development Goal 5, Sharmeen Murshid said, ‘At the same time, we are conscious citizens and above all, as human beings, we all have a moral responsibility to protect the dignity, safety and rights of all women and children in the country.’
In the current situation, we believe that the policy makers, law enforcement agencies and all concerned parties need to take awareness and active measures to quickly implement the slow legal system of violence against women, she mentioned.Â
She also expressed her expectation that every citizen of the country, along with the state, will come forward to implement rational and scientifically justified demands to prevent violence against women and children.
