Bangladesh interim government information and broadcasting adviser Mahfuj Alam emphasised that the nation stands above individual ideals, personal respect, and emotions.
In a post on his verified Facebook account, he wrote ‘Unity of patriotic forces is inevitable. I sincerely regret any previous statements and wording that were divisive.’
‘If I remain in government for another day, I want to work with respect and sensitivity towards all forces of the mass uprising,’ he said, adding, ‘I hope that the future state will be democratic and inclusive only if we avoid the divisive slogans and label-mongering of the old settlement, which make a larger group of people vulnerable to killing.’
The adviser continued, ‘The enemies of Bangladesh are united and aggressive. Sovereignty and all democratic institutions are under threat. The patriotic people who were united in the July uprising have a long test ahead of them. This test is of unity and patience. We must pass the test.’
