
A seminar titled ‘Approach to Vertigo’ was held at Bangladesh Medical University on vertigo, a problem caused by a spinning sensation of dizziness or loss of balance.
The seminar was held at the A-Block auditorium on Monday under the initiative of BMU’s central seminar sub-committee, said a press release.
The central seminar sub-committee chairperson Professor Afzalun Nesa was in chair while Khaled Mahbub Morshed moderated the seminar.
BMU’s pro-vice-chancellor Professor Md Mujibur Rahman Hawlader (research and development), treasurer Professor Nahreen Akhtar, dean of the faculty of paediatrics Professor Md Atiar Rahman, among others, spoke.
Professor of neurology department SK Mahbub Alam presented a paper on the treatment of vertigo, including neurological problems, and associate professor of ear, nose and throat department Kanu Lal Saha presented a paper on the surgical treatment of vertigo, including internal ear problems.
Experts at the seminar said that vertigo could occur due to various reasons, including inner ear problems, vestibular system or neurological problems, side effects of drugs, brain problems, eye problems. Therefore, the first thing to do was to identify the cause of vertigo and provide medical services accordingly.
