Chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday reviewed the country’s law and order in a meeting with advisers concerned, chiefs of the three armed forces and senior officials of the law enforcing agencies at his official residence Jamuna in the city.  

Senior officials from the security agencies concerned presented reports in the meeting to apprise the chief adviser of the overall law and order across Bangladesh, according to officials concerned.


The chief adviser held the meeting at a time when several groups, including students, factory workers, and former military personnel, were rallying in the city pressing for various demands while a tense situation has been prevailing along the border with India. People were pushed into Bangladesh territory from the Indian sides in recent incidents.

 ‘A high-level meeting on the country’s law and order was held at the state guest house Jamuna with chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in the chair…The meeting reviewed the law and order situation across the country. Senior security officials presented reports on the situation,’ said a press release issued by the chief adviser’s press wing.

Chief adviser Professor Yunus underscored the need for maintaining a stable security situation in the capital and elsewhere in the country.

He also appreciated the efforts by the security forces in some of the high-profile incidents, the release added.

The meeting was attended by adviser to the ministry of home affairs retired Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, foreign adviser Md Touhid Hossain and national security adviser Khalilur Rahman.

Chief of the Army staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Navy chief Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, and Air Force chief Air Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, along with other senior officials, also attended the meeting, said the release.

On Tuesday, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal blocked the Shahbagh crossing in the capital demanding justice for Shahriar Alam Shammo, who was recently killed on the Dhaka University campus and the supporters of Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Ishraque Hossain continued their protest by locking the gates of the Nagar Bhaban for the fifth day.

On the same day, several hundred readymade garment workers held a march towards the chief adviser’s official residence, demanding the payment of their outstanding wages, and blocked roads near Kakrail Mosque while land owners besieged Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha for cancelling the detailed area plan.

On Sunday, sacked members of the Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force protesting for their reinstatement in their jobs cordoned Bangladesh Army representatives at the National Press Club in Dhaka.

Bordering areas in Bangladesh along India and Myanmar have remained tense over illegal push-in incidents, border killings, Rohingya entrance, abduction of Bangladeshi fishermen and opening fire on them. 

Meanwhile, Indian Border Security Force and the Indian Navy have pushed over 400 people, including Rohingyas and Indian nationals, through land and waterways since May 7, during the airstrikes between the two neighbouring countries of India and Pakistan.

In April, cases, including, 146 robberies, 715 thefts, 88 kidnappings, 2,089 incidents of violence against women, 35 under the Explosives Act, and 154 smuggling cases were filed in police stations across the country, according to the latest police headquarters crime data.
