A pickup van loaded with 168 cartons of fish was robbed reportedly by giving electric shock to the driver and helper on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway at Srinagar in Munshiganj early Monday.

Siddiq Sagar, 28, driver of the pickup van, and his helper, Amin Hossain, 25, were injured in the incident.

The incident occurred at about 4:00am at Ferry Ghat area of Patabhog under the upazila, said the police.

Al Amin said that when they reached the Ferry Ghat area, another pickup van came from behind and stopped their vehicle.  ‘At that moment, a man jumped out of the pickup and climbed onto the fish-laden pickup and used a black object to give the driver an electric shock in their necks.’

The robber group then took out the driver and the helper of the pickup and tied and beat them up with a towel over their faces before leaving away with their vehicle, helper Al Amin said.

Later, an auto-rickshaw driver rescued them and took them to Srinagar Upazila Health complex, he added.

Srinagar police station officer-in-charge Shakil Ahmed said that the pickup was carrying 168 cartons of fish from Jashore to Brahmanbaria.

‘A complaint has been filed with the police station in this incident. The police were working to identify and arrest those involved,’ he added.
