Captain Akbar Ali鈥檚 131 off 110 balls went in vain as South Africa Emerging team levelled the three-match one-day series with a thrilling 10-run victory over their Bangladeshi counterparts in the second match at the Shahid Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi on Wednesday.

After being put into bat first, the visitors posted 332-7 in 50 overs thanks to Connor Boyd鈥檚 91 off 68 and Dian Forreste鈥檚 unbeaten 96 runs off 59 balls. The latter hit seven fours and six sixes in his innings. Andile Mogakane also hit a fifty (55 of 63).

Ripon Mondol, Maruf Mridha, and Mahfuzur Rabby each took two wickets for the hosts.

Chasing a daunting task, Akbar put the hosts in a commanding position after opener Jishan Alam made 50 off 34.

Akbar, who reached his hundred in 85 balls and hit 14 fours and two sixes, added 111 (102) and 96 (88) with Ariful Islam and Chowdhury Md Rizwan, respectively. They needed 42 runs from the last 31 balls with six wickets remaining.

But after Akbar鈥檚 departure, the home side collapsed as they lost six wickets for just 31 runs to get all out for 322 in 49.4 overs.

The third and final match of the series will be held at the same venue on Friday.
