The five-match Twenty20 international series between Pakistan and Bangladesh is likely to be rescheduled as the Pakistan Cricket Board published the revised fixtures of the Pakistan Super League on Tuesday.
The PSL, which was suspended amid the rising tension between Pakistan and India, was pushed back for a week from the original schedule.
Now the T20 franchise league would resume on May 17 with the remaining eight games played in Rawalpindi and Lahore, with the final scheduled on May 25.
That was the date when the T20 series between Bangladesh and Pakistan was scheduled to commence in Faisalabad.
The PCB or the BCB haven’t confirmed whether the series would go ahead as per the original schedule while filing this report.
But it was most likely that the series would be held with a new itinerary. It was learnt that the PCB sent a revised itinerary to the BCB.
According to the updated schedule, the tour would feature five matches but would commence on May 27.
The first three matches will be held in Faisalabad on May 27, 29, and June 1, while the final two are scheduled for June 3 and 5. All fixtures were subject to final approval from both parties.
After India claimed to attack nine sites in Pakistan in the aftermath of a terror attack in India-ruled Kashmir—which India blamed Pakistan for—the cross-border tension escalated quickly.
That put the Bangladesh tour of Pakistan under a lot of uncertainties.
The IPL was postponed for a week, while the PSL was primarily shifted to the UAE and then later suspended. But things calmed down after the countries agreed to a ceasefire with the intervention of the USA.
And now, a day after the IPL announced their resumption, the PSL also did the same. That also opened the door for the Bangladesh series to go ahead.
Rishad Hossain and Nahid Rana were given NOCs to take part in the PSL for the whole tournament. But under the new circumstances, their return to Pakistan for the league was not certain.
Bangladesh are set to leave for the UAE today in two groups, where they will play a two-match T20 series with the host nation.
They had a week-long preparation camp at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, where a match-scenario practice session was held on Monday.
The newly appointed T20 captain of Bangladesh, Liton Das, said that the camp gave them a rare opportunity to work on their skills.
‘When there’s continuous international cricket, there’s hardly any time to work on skill development. Playing match after match, the intensity of games doesn’t allow for focused skill work. So, this is an added opportunity where we’ve been working on skills over an extended period,’ said Liton.
