
The Anti-Corruption Commission on Tuesday launched an inquiry into allegations of irregularities of Tk聽343 crore and evading income tax of Tk聽102 crore at the Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology.
The commission also initiated an inquiry into allegations of amassing illegal wealth by the Northern University of Bangladesh鈥檚 trustee board chairman, professor Abu Yusuf Md Abdullah, and his family members.
The anti-graft agency made the decisions on the launch of the two separate inquiries at a meeting held at its Segun Bagicha headquarters in the capital Dhaka, said ACC director general Md Akhtar Hossain.
The ACC appointed its deputy assistant director Minu Aktar Sumi inquiry officer to probe allegations of transferring Tk聽343.60 crore of the Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology to the Shanto-Mariam Foundation by members of the private university鈥檚 trustee board, violating rules.
The private university has also allegedly evaded tax of Tk聽102 crore since its establishment in 2003.
The Northern University of Bangladesh鈥檚 trustee board chairman, professor Abu Yusuf Md Abdullah, and his family members allegedly amassed a huge amount of money through corruption and irregularities and they also allegedly laundered money abroad.
ACC assistant director Sajidur Roman was appointed inquiry officer to probe the allegations against Yusuf Abdullah and his family members.
