Former Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait has been appointed as the new pace bowling coach of the Bangladesh national cricket team until November 2027, the Bangladesh Cricket Board said in a press release on Monday.
Tait was announced for the role after the BCB confirmed that former New Zealand all-rounder Andre Adams and they mutually agreed to end his contract, which was supposed to run until March next year.
The BCB said that Tait would join the team setup later this month.
Tait, one of the fastest bowlers in the history of cricket, was part of Australia’s World Cup-winning squad in 2007. He represented Australia in 59 matches across all formats.
The 42-year-old previously served as a bowling coach for the national teams of Pakistan, the West Indies (Test Team), and Afghanistan.
He has also held coaching roles in various top-level leagues and competitions around the world, including the Bangladesh Premier League, Big Bash League, Pakistan Super League, Lankan Premier League and English County Cricket.
Tait was the head coach of Chittagong Kings in the latest edition of BPL, where they lost the final to Fortune Barishal.
He was the head coach of Chittagong Kings in the most recent BPL season and also played for the team in the 2012-13 edition.
Tait said that his focus would be on the fast bowling group to bring more wins for the team.
‘It’s a good time to be involved with the Bangladesh cricket team right now, a bit of a new era if you like,’ Tait was quoted as saying in the press release.
‘It’s been spoken about many times recently—the young talent with the fast bowlers—which is great.
‘This is international cricket, not a development team, and everyone expects the talent to bring results, which is very much my focus with the fast bowling group and, most importantly, getting more wins for the team.
‘To have the opportunity to work with Phil Simmons is equally as exciting, and I’m looking forward to the journey ahead,’ concluded Tait.
