Bangladesh Railway will start selling advance train tickets from May 21 ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

All train tickets will be sold online.


The railway will run 10 special additional passenger trains and add 44 new coaches to its regular trains.

Special trains to carry cattle will run three days from June 2 and 4 on Dewanganj Bazar-Dhaka and Islampur Bazar-Dhaka routes. Both Dewanganj Bazar and Islampur Bazar are in Jamalpur district.

Return train tickets will be sold from May 30.

The update came on Monday at an inter-ministerial meeting held at the Bangladesh Power Development Board head office Bidyut Bhaban in the capital to make Eid journeys safe and smooth.

Adviser to the ministries of road transport and bridges and railways Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan chaired the meeting.

This year Eid-ul-Azha is likely to be held on June 7.

From Dhaka on different routes across the country the number of seats in the 43 intercity trains will be around 33,300, said railway officials at the meeting.

Selling of advance tickets for trains in the west zone would start from 8:00am each day and for trains in the east zone would start from 2:00pm till the tickets remain available.

According to the Bangladesh Railway, on May 21 advance tickets will be sold for journeys on May 31, on May 22 for journeys on June 1, on May 23 for June 2, on May 24 for June 3, on May 25 for June 4, on May 26 for June 5, and on May 27 for June 6.

Based on sighting of the moon, the tickets of June 7 and 8 will be sold.

On May 30, advance return tickets will be sold for June 9, on May 31 for June 10, on June 1 for June 11, on June 2 for June 12, on June 3 for June 13, on June 4 for June 14 and on June 5 for June 15.

During this Eid, 10 additional trains will run on the Chattogram-Chandpur, Dhaka-Dewanganj, Bhairab Bazar-Kishoreganj, Mymensingh-Kishoreganj, and Joydevpur-Parbatipur routes.

Of the trains for cattle, Cattle Special-1 will start from Dewanganj Bazar at 5:00pm on June 2 to reach Dhaka at 6:30am on June 3; Cattle Special-2 will start from Islampur Bazar at 3:40pm on June 2 and will reach Dhaka at 1:50am on June 3; and Cattle Special-1 will start from Dewanganj Bazar at 5:00pm on June 3 and will reach Dhaka at 6:30am on June 4. 

For non-air-conditioned compartments, 25 per cent standing tickets will be sold at counters during Eid journeys.

A person will be allowed to buy maximum four tickets by producing national identity cards or birth certificate numbers of all passengers.

No advance tickets are refundable.

From June 3 all intercity trains’ weekly off-day will be cancelled till Eid-ul-Azha.

The meeting was also attended by local government, rural development, and cooperatives ministry adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, special assistant to the chief adviser Sheik Moinuddin, Road Transport and Highways Division senior secretary Md Ehsanul Hoque, Bridges Division secretary Md Abdur Rouf, and railways ministry secretary Md Fahimul Islam.
