
Bangladesh University Grants Commission chairman Professor SMA Faiz has said that the Japan International Cooperation Agency has expressed its interest in helping to improve the quality of engineering and technology education in the country.
JICA expressed this interest in a bilateral meeting on higher education with the UGC at the UGC in Dhaka on Thursday, said a press release on Friday.
A project in this regard would be taken up soon. Under the project, quality postgraduate students will be produced, students will be research-oriented and innovation-oriented and their work skills will be increased, said he UGC chairman.
Sarei Moto, principal adviser of JAICA technical education advisory team, led the four-member delegation.
Sarei Moto said that a project will be taken up quickly and its goals will be determined to increase the capacity of students. ‘Necessary sponsorship would be provided for research cooperation and joint degrees between universities in Japan and Bangladesh.’
Professor Faiz said that there were few opportunities to provide special incentives at the postgraduate level of engineering and technology education in the country. ‘As a result, students are not motivated to complete postgraduate.’
He believes that students will be interested in doing postgraduate through this project. ‘Bangladeshi youth are playing a good role in the economy by receiving higher education from Japan.’
He called for increasing the number of scholarships in Japan for the country’s young generation and finding new areas of scholarships and fellowships.
UGC members Professor Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan, Professor Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Professor Md Saidur Rahman, UGC secretary Md Fakhrul Islam, director of planning and development Mohammad Makshudur Rahman Bhuiyan and additional director Shah Mohammad Aminul Islam, among others, were present in the meeting.
