Three members of a family, including an 11-month-old child, suffered burn injuries in a cylinder gas explosion at a house at Chandrima Udyan of Mohammadpur in the capital Dhaka early Wednesday.
The injured are Fatema Begum, 40, her daughter Sadia Afrin, 20, and Sadia’s infant daughter Irshat Jahan.
The explosion occurred at about 4:00am on the ground floor of a three-storey building on Road 11 in the area.
National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery resident medical officer Shaon Bin Rahman said that Fatema and the child were currently undergoing treatment at the institute.
The child suffered 30 per cent burns and was in critical condition, he said, adding that the two women suffered about seven per cent burns.
Later, Sadia was discharged after treatment as her condition was stable, he added.
Fatema’s sister, Jannatul Ferdousi said that the three injured were sleeping when the blast happened.
‘We believe the blast happened due to a leak in the gas cylinder they bought recently,’ she said.
Later, they were rescued and taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
