An officer-in-charge of a police station and his six colleagues were injured in an attack while they were conducting a drive to arrest an accused in a case in Jashore on Wednesday.
The injured OC is Anwar Hossain of Jashore鈥檚 Chaugacha police.
The district police formed a three-member committee to investigate the attack, said Noor E Alam Siddiqui, additional superintendent of police in the district.
Assaulting the on-duty police would not be tolerated, he said, adding that stern action would be taken against those involved in the assault.
Chaugacha police inspector (investigation) Md Jillur Rahman said that OC Anwar with his team went to Makapur area to arrest a man named Siam, an accused in a case, in Chaugacha upazila. After they arrested Siam, some men launched an attack on them to take the arrested away.
A case was filed regarding the attack and an operation was going on to arrest the attackers.
The attackers, however, failed to snatch arrested Siam from the police, inspector Jillur said, adding that he was sent to jail on Wednesday after being produced in court.
The injured police officials took primary medical treatment at Chaugacha upazila health complex.
