Japan International Cooperation Agency and the department of Japanese studies at the University of Dhaka collaborated to organise the 5th JICA chair lecture on the ‘History and future of nursing in Japan and Bangladesh,’ on DU campus Tuesday.

Hiroko MINAMI, professor emeritus, Kobe City College of Nursing, and former president of the International Council of Nurses, delivered the keynote lecture, said a press release.


The seminar was graced by Md Saidur Rahman, secretary, health services division, as chief guest, and Md Sarwar Bari, secretary, medical education and family welfare division, as special guest.

Ichiguchi Tomohide, chief representative, JICA Bangladesh office, joined the event and expressed his thanks to all concerned. Taiabur Rahman, professor and dean, faculty of social sciences, DU, was also present.

Dilruba Sharmin, associate professor and acting chairman of Japanese studies department, delivered the introductory remarks. Yayoi TAMURA, president, Japan Visiting Nursing Foundation and Noriko Katada, chair of the board of trustees, president, Mie Prefectural College of Nursing, attended the seminar and participated in the Q&A session.

The event was chaired by DU vice-chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan. More than 500 academics, researchers, development professionals, and students from DU and different nursing colleges attended the seminar.
