Leaders of the Sylhet divisional unit of Petroleum Association said on Sunday night that they were united against any harassment, unethical orders and misconduct with them under the pretext of enforcing laws.
They also warned that the association would mobilise strong resistance against the ‘planned’ attempts to disrupt activities in this sector.
The association leaders made the comments at an emergency meeting held in Chandirpool area in the city.
At the meeting, they also expressed their strong discontent and worry over the recent ‘illegal, intentional and unnecessary interventions’ that were being done by some ‘dishonest and irresponsible’ officials of the Department of Environment, Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution, Fire Service and Civil Defence, Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments, and Roads and Highways Department in the ‘fair’ activities of the Petroleum Association.
The leaders alleged that some corrupt and dishonest officials were oppressing business institutions by bringing fabricated allegations and showing false environment-related reports.
As a result, not only the business community is being affected, but the general people are also suffering, they claimed.
The association members said that they would be forced to go for stringent movement programmes, including the suspension of fuel supply from all petrol pumps in the Sylhet division, if these ‘unethical activities and harassments’ were not stopped immediately.
Petroleum Association’s divisional president Jubayer Ahmed Chowdhury chaired the meeting which was moderated by its general secretary Humayun Ahmed.
