Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal on Saturday urged sports organisers to appoint qualified and passionate individuals to the Bangladesh Cricket Board, who can contribute to the development of regional and district-level cricket.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Bangladesh District and Divisional Sports Organisers Association at the National Sports Council Auditorium, Tamim called for reform in the selection process of cricket representatives from district and divisional levels.
‘I would like to humbly request that only those with a strong cricketing background and a genuine dream to take Bangladesh cricket forward be chosen—whether from a district or a division,’ Tamim said during the event.
Tamim criticised BCB directors who often neglected their local responsibilities after assuming power on the board.
‘In the past, I’ve seen individuals come to the cricket board from districts or divisions and then forget their roots after becoming board directors,’ he said.
Tamim also said the development at the top level of administration must be earned through proven efforts in the domestic circuit.
He expressed disappointment over the inadequate cricket structures in several parts of the country, citing Barishal as a key example.
‘I recently visited several districts, including Barishal, where not even a standard cricket league is being held,’ Tamim said.
‘Cricket is our biggest sport, and with all due respect to others, if this is the condition of the most popular game, then those who fail to contribute to its development in their own areas have no business being on the board,’ he added.
