
Police on Wednesday arrested five people, including banned Bangladesh Chhatra League activist Arafat over the allegation of vandalising Dhaka University bus at Uttara on Tuesday afternoon.
The arrested are Sumon Mia, 19, Manik, 19, Sohel Mia, 25, Arafat, 28 and Mohammad Rakib, 19, according to police officials.
Uttara West police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Hafizur Rahman said that they arrested the five people, including the BCL activist after conducting operations in different places of Uttara and Abdullahpur.
‘We have identified them after analysing video footage and arrested them,’ the OC said, adding that they have sent them to the court.
The OC, however, could not share the identities of the other four arrested.
He said that a case was filed over the incident occurred at about 1:30pm on Tuesday when 300–400 students were protesting at the death of a Secondary School Certificate examinee in a road accident on April 27.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· Dhaka University correspondent reported that six students of the university were injured in the attack on the Khonika bus running on the Tongi-Gazipur route.
The university in a press release on Wednesday said that the police informed the DU authorities not disclosing identities of arrested for the sake of investigation.
The investigation officer sub-inspector, Zinnatul Islam, could not be reached for comment despite repeated attempts over the phone.
