The Anti-Corruption Commission on Wednesday conducted a drive at the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education’s Rajshahi zone office on charges of taking bribes from the teachers for approving and forwarding teachers’ MPO and pay arrears.

A team led by ACC Rajshahi integrated office assistant director Amir Hossain conducted the drive at the office of deputy director (college section) Alamgir Kabir, after a victim teacher lodged a complaint with the commission, alleging that Alamgir Kabir does not approve and forward any application without bribes.

Amir Hossain said that they primarily found that the deputy director held back 95 applications of teachers’ MPO and pay arrears without any reason.

He said that they would submit a report to the ACC head office, requesting the latter to take legal action against the DD.

Md Ashaduzzaman, director of secondary and higher education’s Rajshahi zone office, said that he could hold an application for a maximum of 10 days while the assistant director for seven days, and the deputy director for five days.

‘Instructions were given to send the files within the stipulated time, but Alamgir Kabir did not comply, giving various excuses,’ Ashaduzzaman said, adding that previously, when he withheld 151 files, repeated requests were made, but to no avail.

DD Alamgir Kabir could not be reached for his comment both at his office and over the phone.

Earlier on March 11, an ACC team conducted a drive at DD Alamgir Kabir’s office over the same allegation of taking bribes from the teachers for approving and forwarding teachers’ MPO and pay arrears.

The ACC team then found that the DD held back 151 applications of teachers’ MPO and pay arrears without any reason.
