Nasum Ahmed and Saif Uddin propelled Mohammedan Sporting Club to secure a thrilling four-wicket win over Gazi Group Cricketers in the ongoing Super League of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
With this victory, Mohammedan secured the second spot, winning all four games in the Super League, and kept their hopes alive for their first DPL title since the 2009-10 season.聽
The title will now be decided in the last and final round when table-toppers Abahani Limited (26 points)聽will play against Mohammedan (24 points) in the league deciding match at the same venue on Tuesday.聽
Opting to bat first, Mohammedan bowlers Mustafizur Rahman (3-46) and Saifuddin (3-42) shared six wickets to restrict Gazi to 236 in 49.4 overs.聽
Opener Munim Shahriar scored 80 off 82, including ten fours and two sixes and Sheikh Parvez Jibon contributed 33 runs.=
Chasing a meagre target, Mohammedan faced a hiccup midway through before veteran Mahmudullah鈥檚 49 off 62 steadied the innings while Towhid Hridoy made 37.
Saif Uddin was unbeaten on 30聽while Nasum played a crucial 13-ball 21 to help the side reach the target in the last ball of the innings.
Mohammedan required 12 runs in the last over, when Nasum struck a four, which was followed by a dot and then a six to level the scores in the last four deliveries and took a single to complete their chase.
Parvez Hossain Emon (73) and Jishan Alam (63) guided Abahani to beat Legends of Rupganj by seven wickets at the BKSP-4 to maintain their perfect run.
Rupganj managed 225-9 in allotted overs after being invited to bat first. Skipper Mosaddek Hossain Saikat took 4-41 for Abahani.聽
In reply, Abahani took 37.3 overs to chase down聽the target.
In the day鈥檚 other match, Imranuzzaman notched up 123 off 108 to power Agrani Bank Cricket Club to a 137-run win over Gulshan Cricket Club at BKSP-3.
Imranuzzaman鈥檚 century helped Agrani post a mammoth 340-7, and then the bowlers, led by Sandip Roy Chowdhury (5-35),聽rattled down Gulshan to 203 in 46.5 overs.聽
