
The body of a former leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, was recovered from a septic tank of a newly constructed building at village Durgapur of Sadar Upazila in Noakhali on Saturday, two days after he went missing.
The deceased, Mir Hossain, better known as Saddam, 31, of Rajganj union of Begumganj upazila in Noakhali, was a former vice-president of the union鈥檚 ward 7 unit of JCD.
Neither the police nor the victim鈥檚 relatives could immediately say the reason behind the murder.
The police and locals said that Saddam鈥檚 family informed the Begumganj police that Saddam went missing from his village at about 9:00pm on Thursday.
They said that a group of children saw a body wrapped with polythene inside the septic tank at about 6:00am on Saturday and local people later informed it to the police.
Sudharam police station inspector (investigation) Muhammad Abu Taher said that the police personnel from Begumganj and Sudharam police station, on information from the locals, rushed to the spot, recovered the body, and sent it to Noakhali General Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
He said that the deceased had injury marks on his neck and face.
Begumganj police station officer-in-charge Liton Dewan said that no case was lodged and none was arrested in this connection until Saturday evening.
