The Dhaka South City Corporation on Friday conducted a mosquito control and special cleanliness drive in the Dhanmondi residential area.

The drive, which began at about 7:30am, included participation from 450 cleaners of the Waste Management Department, 50 mosquito control workers from the Health Department, 100 volunteers from the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, 50 from BD Clean, and 50 volunteers from Dhanmondi Society, said a DSCC press release.


Diving the Dhanmondi residential area into seven zones, main roads, Dhanmondi lake, parks, mosques, and areas adjacent to the Eidgah were cleaned and sprayed with mosquito repellent.聽

Addressing the event as chief guest, Local Government Division secretary Md Rezaul Maksud Jahedi said that, to make Dhaka livable, the government was formulating an integrated master plan with the participation of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha, the Public Works Department, the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, the police, and other relevant agencies.

He also said that a separate master plan was being developed for sewage management as well.

Dhaka South City Corporation administrator Md Shahjahan Miah said that to prevent the spread of dengue during the monsoon season, special cleanliness and mosquito control drives would be conducted in every area under the city corporation.

He also said that a tree planting campaign would also be launched at the beginning of this year鈥檚 monsoon to bring back the greenery of Dhaka.
