The Dhaka North City Corporation in a drive on Thursday demolished eight illegally constructed gates on several road stretches at Rupnagar of Mirpur Section 2 in the capital.
The authorities also pulled down about a hundred makeshift shops, freeing about a kilometre of road stretches and footpaths at the place, a DNCC release said.
The authorities also fined a furniture shop and a hotel a total oif Tk聽3,600 for setting up shops on the footpaths during the drive conducted by executive magistrates Md Ziaur Rahman and Md Shahidul Islam.
Ziaur Rahman said that the gates were demolished at the request of the residents as the gates, erected without the corporation鈥檚 permission, were causing troubles to them.
The corporation has recently started conducting regular drives to dismantle illegal structures from roads, footpaths and canals.
