Brothers Union retained its place in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League as they thrashed Partex Sporting Club by 113 runs in their final match of the relegation round at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
Brothers (seven) and Partex (eight) had just one point difference before coming into the match, which posed as a decisive play-off for both sides.
Shinepukur had already been relegated, having managed only a single win in the entire league and losing both of their matches in the relegation league.
Brothers posted 294-9 in the stipulated 50 overs after electing to bat first as Mahfijul Islam struck 98 off 97, including 10 fours and five sixes, while skipper Myshukur Rahman made 50 in 73 with seven boundaries.
The duo added a 120-run partnership for the opening stand, which gave them a solid start, accompanied by Aich Mollah (48) and Mizanur Rahman (42), contributing crucial runs.
Partex, in reply, were restricted to 181 in 37.1 overs, despite a fighting 85 off 74 from wicket-keeper batter Adil.
Rakibul Atik (3-36) and Alok Kapali (3-47) shared six wickets between them as Partex lost wickets at regular intervals. Salauddin Shakil also took 2-29.
