The National Board of Revenue has seized the bank accounts of eight directors of the advertising company Asiatic Group, along with 17 of their affiliated companies.

Moreover, the NBR’s Central Intelligence Cell has sent letters to the chief executives of both banks and non-bank financial institutions, requesting details of all financial transactions related to these individuals and companies.

Requesting anonymity, an NBR official confirmed the development.

The letters were issued on Wednesday afternoon, he added.

The list of individuals whose accounts have been seized includes former Awami League Member of Parliament and former Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, the late Aly Zaker’s widow Sara Jaker, their son Iresh Zaker, daughter Sriya Sarbojoya, Ikram Mayeen Choudhury, Mohammad Morshed Alam, Mohammad Hasan Faruk and Mohammad Rezaul Hasan.

All these individuals hold directorial positions in the Asiatic Group.

On Wednesday, the CIC issued a directive to freeze the bank accounts of all 17 Asiatic-affiliated companies, said the NBR source.

These companies include Asiatic Media Limited (formerly Asiatic MEC Limited), Asiatic Marketing Communication Limited, Asiatic Talking Point Communications Limited (formerly Talking Point Communications Limited), Asiatic Experiential Marketing Limited, Optimum Service Limited (formerly Optimum Logistics Service Limited), Asiatic Events Marketing Limited, Media Communications Limited, Asiatic Mind Share Limited, Asiatic TMS Limited, Blackboard Strategies Limited, Out of the Blue-Design Studio Limited (formerly Cookie Jar Limited), Dhwani Chitro Limited (formerly Dhwani Recording Studio Limited), Stencil Bangladesh Limited, Radio Swadhin Private Limited, and East Asiatic Advertising Limited.

NBR sources said that these individuals and their companies have been accused of concealing assets and engaging in tax evasion.

In this regard, a spokesperson from Asiatic Group told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they are yet to receive any official letter from NBR and are not aware of any allegations against them.

Asiatic is a very clean and compliant group and the business growth is based on hard work of people, creativity and ethics, he added.

‘We will be able to prove ourselves innocent, should there be proper investigation and fair delivery of justice,’ he added.
