
Normalcy returned to the campus of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology after over two months as the protesting students withdrew their fast-unto-death programme on Thursday.
They rejoiced as the government had initiated procedures to relieve the vice-chancellor, professor Mohammad Mashud, and the pro-vice-chancellor, professor Sheikh Shariful Alam, of their responsibilities on the day.
Before that the students continued their fast-unto-death programme for around 58 hours.
Pro-vice-chancellor professor Sheikh Shariful Alam, meanwhile, claimed that he did not know anything about the resignation and sent a letter to the education adviser to take decision after more probe.聽聽
The KUET teachers association in a statement said that the decision to release the vice-chancellor and the pro-vice-chancellor under pressure without proper investigation essentially resulted in a defeat of justice.
The university鈥檚 director of student welfare, professor Md Abdullah Akhter, told 抖阴精品 that the students withdrew their strike at about 1:00am on Thursday after the information and broadcasting ministry issued a press release that the education ministry had published information about releasing the two senior officials of the university.
Soon new appointments would be made against these two positions after forming a search committee, the release also reads.
It further reads that during the interim period, a KUET professor will be temporarily appointed as the vice-chancellor.
The decision came after the protesting students of the KUET had continued their fast-unto-death programme since April 21 afternoon with the one-point demand for removal of the university vice-chancellor for his alleged failure to provide security to the students and instigation to file cases against protesters and for temporarily expelling 37 students.
Although the education adviser, Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, visited the university on Wednesday morning and requested the protesting students to withdraw the strike and the authorities cancelled the suspension order of 37 students, students continued their protest.
Since Thursday morning it was seen that normalcy returned to the campus with some police members patrolling there.
The students brought out a victory procession in the afternoon.聽
KUET pro-vice-chancellor professor Sheikh Shariful Alam sent a letter to the education adviser on Thursday claiming that after joining the post on December 4 the vice-chancellor did not support him in any administrative and financial works and made his position a ceremonial one.
In the letter, he also demanded opportunity for self-defence and urged the authorities to take action after more probe.

The recent situation began unfolding on April 13 when a probe committee submitted its report to the KUET authorities following a violent clash between the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and the Students Against Discrimination on February 18 over a ban on student politics on the campus, leaving over 100 people injured.
