Police arrested a 30-year-old man on Tuesday night on charge of making ‘derogatory’ remarks about Prophet Muhammad.

The arrested is Sagar Saha, a resident of Bulanpur area in Rajshahi city.


Sabina Yeasmin, additional deputy police commissioner of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, said that Sagar Saha had been making derogatory remarks about Islam and Prophet Muhammad in public and on social media for almost a year.

‘Despite being warned multiple times by local people, Sagor, however, did not stop,’ the police commissioner said, adding that on Wednesday evening, he again made snide comments about Islam and Prophet Muhammad publicly in front of a mosque.

At one point, he entered the mosque and began shouting obscene language and hateful remarks about Islam, making the local people angry, she said.

The police official said that a local resident contacted them by dialing the national emergency service at 999.

‘Responding to the call, a team of police from the Rajpara police station arrived at the scene and with the help of locals detained Sagar Saha,’ she said, adding that a case was filed against Sagar with the Rajpara police station in this regard early Wednesday and he was sent to jail through a court at about noon.
