
Police arrested a youth for allegedly attempting to rape a seven-year-old girl at Sakhipur in Tangail on Monday night.
The accused is Sabbir, 20, son of Abdul Mannan Mia of Rangamatia village in Fulbaria upazila of Mymensingh.
He works as a bricklayer and lives in a rented house in ward 3 of Sakhipur municipality.
On Tuesday afternoon, Sabbir was sent to jail by a court as the victim鈥檚 father filed a case with the Sakhipur police in this regard earlier in the day.
Tangail district court inspector Luthfor Rahman confirmed the matter.
Senior judicial magistrate Rumi Khatun sent the accused, Sabbir, to jail in the case and the court is set to take victim鈥檚 statement today, the inspector added.聽
According to the victim鈥檚 family and police, on Wednesday night at around 9:00pm, the child鈥檚 mother left her in a room in the house and was working in the next room.
After a while, the child鈥檚 auto-rickshaw driver father returned home and searched for his daughter. The couple came to the child鈥檚 room and found their daughter not in bed.
Later, when she could not be found despite an hour-long search with neighbours, the matter was reported to the police station.
The girl, however, returned home about an hour and a half after her disappearance.
When asked where she was at that time, the child told the family that she was with her former acquaintance Sabbir, the police said, adding that the girl also confessed to the police that Sabbir had touched her body.
The accused, Sabbir, said that he did not take the girl as she left the house alone.
