Qatar would hire 725 Bangladeshi soldiers to serve in various capacities in the country, chief adviser鈥檚 press secretary Shafiqul Alam said on Tuesday.

鈥楾he process of hiring the soldiers from Bangladesh will begin within next two months,鈥 he told BSS on the sidelines of Earthna Summit in Doha.


He also said that the deposed Sheikh Hasina government did not pay dues of hundreds of millions of US dollars in LNG import from Qatar.

鈥楬owever, the interim government has taken an聽 initiative to pay dues in LNG import and all the dues will be paid within a day or two,鈥 he said.

Alam said that Bangladeshi soldiers had been working in Kuwait for a long time. Similarly, Qatar also wanted to hire Bangladeshi soldiers on a regular basis.

鈥楺atar will hire 725 soldiers in every three years but we are trying to increase its number,鈥 he added.

A high-level Bangladesh delegation, led by chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, is now visiting Doha to attend the Earthna Summit 2025.

The press secretary said that the interim government had already paid a large portion of the dues for LNG imported from Qatar.

鈥$37 million in importing LNG from Qatar is yet to be paid but the government will pay the amount within a day or two,鈥 he added.

Earlier in the day, Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, Qatar minister of state for energy affairs, called on chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on the sidelines of Earthna Summit in Doha.

Foreign adviser Md Touhid Hossain, national security adviser Khalilur Rahman, energy adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan and principal coordinator on SDG affairs Lamiya Morshed were, among others, present at the meeting.
