A group of supporters of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami allegedly vandalised a total of 14 houses to oust those living there from their land at Rupdia under Jashore Sadar upazila on Sunday, Syed Saberul Haque Sabu, president of Jashore district unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party said.

The Jamaat-e-Islami and the police, however, denied the involvement of the Jamaat-e-Islami in the attack.


A case was filed by one Milon Hossain, son of Md Chandu of Madhyapara at Rupdia village with the Jashore Kotwali police in this regard.

According to the case statement, around 40 people led by Khabir Khan, Md Jahid, Md Ali Khan and Ranjan Ali Khan, equipped with local weapons attacked 14 residences and looted valuables and money in cash ing to oust them from their property at around 9:30 on Sunday.

‘The miscreants wounded some of us during the attack,’ the complaint reads.

Kazi Babul Hossain, acting officer-in-charge of Kotwali police told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that miscreants attacked some houses at Rupdia on Sunday following a feud over some land. ‘Several cases were also filed over the matters earlier,’ he said, adding, ‘I found no political involvement here.’

He also said that the police were investigating the matter.

Aninda Islam Amit, acting organising secretary of the BNP, on Tuesday visited the spot and distributed relief materials to the victims.

Golam Rasul, amir, Jashore district unit of the Jamaat-e-Islami also visited the spot and distributed relief materials to the victims.

Talking to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·, Syed Saberul Haque Sabu, president, Jashore district unit of BNP said that miscreants badly damaged some 14 houses of BNP activists at Rupdia to oust them from their land.

Referring to the victims, he said that the attackers were supporters of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

Denying the allegation, Golam Rasul, amir of the Jashore district unit of the Jamaat-e-Islami, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that those involved in the incident did not have any connections with his party.

A quarter, however, is trying to victimise the Jamaat-e-Islami in this connection, Golam Rasul added.
