
Protests against Israel’s military offensive in Palestine continued for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday in Dhaka and elsewhere across the country, demanding an immediate end to the bombardment and mass killings.
A cross section of people, including students, teachers, leaders of different political parties and cultural personalities staged separate rallies, brought out processions, formed human chains and handed over memorandums condemning the Israeli attacks in Palestine.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent at Dhaka University reported that DU teachers from pro-BNP-Jamaat White Panel on Thursday held a human chain at the base of the Aparajeyo Bangla sculpture on the campus demanding an immediate end to the attacks.
They called on the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to take actions regarding the struggles of Palestine.Â
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent at Jagannath University reported that students, teachers, officials and staff members of the JnU on Thursday staged a demonstration titled ‘March for Palestine’ from the campus towards the Tantibazar intersection expressing solidarity with the people of Palestine.
They also submitted memorandums to the United States embassy in Dhaka, the Saudi Arabian embassy in Dhaka and Bangladesh’s foreign affairs ministry condemning the attacks in Palestine.
Leaders of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, on Thursday also submitted a memorandum to foreign affairs adviser Md Touhid Hossain demanding strong diplomatic measures against Israeli aggression in Palestine.
The memorandum urged the ministry to take a 10-point action, including issuing a strong condemnation of Israel’s actions in Gaza as acts of genocide and crimes against humanity and restoring the ‘Except Israel’ clause in passports.
Members of Nirapad Sarak Chai held rallies and a procession in front of its office and the National Press Club in the capital demanding an immediate end to the massacres and killing of children in Gaza.Â
Students, teachers, and officials of Islamic Arabic University held a human chain in front of its IAU campus in Mohammadpur in the capital.
In Lalmonirhat, students, teachers of different educational institutions, political leaders, cultural and social activists held a protest rally in the district’s Central Shaheed Minar demanding an immediate end to Israeli aggression in Palestine.
The protesters also torched an effigy of Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu for conducting mass killings in Palestine.
The Ganosamhati Andolan on Thursday announced a protest rally to be held in front of the Bangladesh National Museum on Friday afternoon.
