The Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday filed a case against former state minister for shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury on charges of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 5.73 crore.

ACC assistant director Minhaj Bin Islam filed the case with its Dhaka-1 integrated district office, said the agency鈥檚 director general Akhtar Hossain at a press briefing.

According to the case statement, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, also a former Awami League lawmaker from Dinajpur-2 constituency, amassed total assets worth Tk 8.62 crore.

Scrutinising his assets, the ACC found wealth worth Tk 5.73 crore beyond known sources of his income.

There is also an allegation against Khalid that he conducted suspicious transactions of Tk 13.68 crore in his 11 bank accounts.

On February 27, the ACC started an enquiry against Khalid Mahmud, also an organising secretary of AL, over allegations of corruption.

Khalid fled to London after the fall of the Awami League government amid a student-led mass uprising on August 5, 2024.
