
At least three staff members of the Dhaka Reporters Unity were injured in an attack allegedly by local miscreants and the employees of Karatoa Courier Service on Friday.
At least 100 people launched the attack on DRU staff members on DRU premises at about 12:00 noon on Friday as DRU staff Zakir Hossain Babul caught them red-handed in Trading Corporation of Bangladesh card forgery.
Injured DRU staff members are Zakir Hossain Babul, Jahirul Islam and Rabiul Islam, according to DRU leaders.
‘Babul caught one of the employees of Karatoa Courier Service red-handed while selling photocopies of TCB tokens at Tk 50 to Tk 100. Babul was beaten by 25-30 people in the morning in front of the Segunbagicha High School area while coming to DRU,’ DRU president Abu Saleh Akon told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
He said that over 100 people with sticks, iron rods, hockey sticks, and machetes again attacked DRU staff members on its premises at about 12:00 noon.
Shahbagh police station officer-in-charge Khalid Manusr said that DRU administrative officer Md Solaiman Hossain filed a case with the police station and two people were arrested in connection with the attack.
DRU president Abu Saleh Akon and its general secretary Mynul Hasan Sohel in a statement later in the evening condemned the attack and urged the members of law enforcement agencies to arrest the attackers at the earliest.
Karatoa Courier Service officials could not be reached for comments after several attempts in the evening.
