The Revolutionary Workers Party on Thursday said that the reform proposals presented by the National Consensus Commission failed to include any specific measures to curb the influence of money in elections.

A delegation of the party led by its general secretary Saiful Haque made the remark after submitting its opinion on a 166-point questionnaires regarding key recommendations by five reform commissions, said a press release.

Badiul Alam Majumder, member of the consensus commission, received the written opinion.

Saiful Haque said that his party agreed with 122 points, partially agreed with 21 and disagreed with 23 out of 166 questions.

He also said that the format in which responses were sought in the spreadsheet was confusing.

He further said that his party did not support reducing the powers and jurisdiction of the Election Commission.

The party expressed its opinion in favour of preserving the name of the state and the fundamental principles of the constitution.

‘Moreover, we have proposed that equality, human dignity and social justice be included as the fundamental principles,’ Saiful said.

The party’s political council members Bahnisikha Jamali, Akbar Khan, Ansar Ali Dulal and Mir Mofazzal Hossain Mushtaq were present.

According to the NCC, 28 political parties responded to the 166-point questionnaires till Thursday although the deadline expired on March 13.

On March 5, the consensus commission sent the questionnaire to 38 political parties.
