The National Sports Council violated the ministry of youth and sports’ policy by rejecting the Search Committee proposal, as the NSC appointed Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal as general secretary of the Bangladesh Archery Federation and formed an ad-hoc committee.
The infringement occurred on Thursday, when the NSC approved ad-hoc committees for the Archery Federation, Kho Kho Federation, and the Baseball and Softball Association, thereby dissolving their former executive bodies.
According to Jobaydur Rahman Rana, the search committee convener, they suggested Chapal as a member of the ad-hoc committee and Mokhles Ur Rahman, senior secretary of the ministry of public administration, as general secretary.
‘We don’t know how it happened, but we did not propose Chapal’s name [as general secretary] in our (ad-hoc committee) list,’ Rana told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
‘Yes, you can say, it’s a clear denial of search committee proposal and violation of sports ministry’s own policy [No one can be appointed for the same post more than twice],’ Rana replied to a quarry.
‘I think, discussion is going on for the correction in this regard and hope that the NSC will issue a new circular amending the ad-hoc committee list,’ he added.
However, Interim government sports adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain stated on September 27, 2024 that no one will be able to hold a post in any federation or association for more than two consecutive terms.
Chapal has been the general secretary of the archery federation for almost 15 years, and his reappointment to this ad hoc body violates ministry protocol.
However, Mokhles Ur Rahman was named as the president of the 19-member ad-hoc committee of Archery Federation.
In the circular, Mir Kaiser Sadik Sajib was named the general secretary of the Kho Kho Federation while former player Talha Jubayer as general secretary of the Baseball and Softball Association.
