Milon Hossain, a 23-year-old former student of Dinajpur Polytechnic Institute, was found dead early Thursday 23 days after his abduction from Thakurgaon town, despite his family paying a ransom of Tk 25 lakhs to the kidnappers.

The police recovered the decomposed body of Milon at the Shibganj Maheshpur Bit Bazaar area in Thakurgaon Sadar, and arrested two suspects in connection with the murder.

Milon, son of Panjab Ali, was a resident of Chanapara under Pirganj in the district, went missing from behind Thakurgaon Polytechnic Institute on February 23.

Around 1:00am on that night, his family received a call of his abduction, with the kidnappers initially demanding Tk 3 lakh within 12 hours.

Over the following days, the ransom demands escalated—rising to Tk 5 lakh the next afternoon, Tk10 lakh the day after, Tk 15 lakh three days later, and eventually settling at Tk 25 lakh.

Panjab Ali, Milon’s father, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that he received little support from the police in securing his son’s release.

He arranged the ransom money himself. On March 9, the kidnappers instructed him to board a Dhaka-bound train at 10:00pm with the cash. While the train passed through Senua forest in Pirganj, they directed him to throw the bag of money out of the moving train.

The kidnappers confirmed him that they had collected the taka and assured the family that Milon would be found at Dinajpur Railway Station.

Detective Branch of police in Thakurgaon arrested two individuals linked to the abduction.

According to DB officer Mamunur Rashid, the suspects confessed the murder of Milon during initial interrogation.

Based on their information, the police recovered his body from beneath an abandoned toilet near the house of one Sejan Ali in the Shibganj Maheshpur Bit Bazaar area.

Thakurgaon superintendent of police Sheikh Zahidul Islam said that they had been investigating this case for several days. ‘With the aid of technology, we apprehended the two suspects, which led us to the body. Further details will be shared as the investigation progresses.’
