
Unidentified miscreants snatched the motorcycle of a teenager after hacking him to death at Gowainghat upazila in Sylhet early Tuesday.
The deceased is Sahel Shahriar, 18, son of Mujibur Rahman of Purnanagar village under Paschim Alirgaon union of the Gowainghat upazila, police said.
Referring to the family members of Sahel, police said that Shahriar was heading towards Jaflong on a motorcycle from his home at Gowainghat on Tuesday morning.
Local people said that the miscreants attacked him at around 5:15am when he reached a place near Radhanagar Bazar at Gowainghat.
The attackers snatched the money and motorcycle from Sahel after hacking him, they said, adding that they threw him by the roadside and left the scene.Â
He was rescued in an unconscious state and was taken to Gowainghat Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared him dead on arrival, they added.
Confirming the incident, Gowainghat police officer-in-charge Sarkar Tofail Ahmed said that the body was sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for a postmortem examination.
He said that there were marks of injuries on the victim’s body and investigation was underway to ascertain whether it was a robbery or a sequel of a previous enmity.
‘Legal action will be taken after receiving a written complaint from the victim’s family,’ the police officer said.
