Bangladeshi FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia took solo lead in the open section of the Asian Zone 3.2 Chess Championship after beating Liyanange Pesandu Rashmitha of Sri Lanka in the fifth round games in Colombo on Friday.

Tahsin earned 4.5 points from the five rounds to top the table while his compatriot International Master Fahad Rahman earned four points to share the second spot with three Sri Lankans. Fahad beat Silwal Purushottam of Nepal.


Among the other Bangladeshi campaigners in the open section, IM Manon Reja Neer, FM Sakline Mostafa Sajid and FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman Emon earned 3.5 points each while Tanvir Alam earned three points and Amit Bikram Roy earned 2.5 points after winning against their Sri Lankan opponents.

Neer beat S Sivathanujan, Sakline beat SP Methdinu, Mahfuzur beat FM GC Anuruddh, Tanvir beat AKS Chamikara and Amit beat SGHA Dulnith.

In the Women鈥檚 section, WFM Wadifa Ahmed shared second position of the table with WIM GD Oshini of Sri Lanka as both earned four points each.

WFM Noshin Anjum and WIM Rani Hamid earned 2.5 points each after the round games against Sri Lankan opponents.

Wadifa played draw against WCM Sanudula K M Dahamdi while Rani Hamid beat Ranasinghe R A Lihini Himansa and Noshin lost to Palliyage Sethumlee Devhara.
