Bangladesh鈥檚 FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia lost 58 rating points after conceding defeat to Mexican International Master Medina Sion Radamantys in the eighth round of the World Junior (Under-20) Chess Championship in Petrovac, Montenegro.

Tahsin lost against Medina after 43 moves. With the loss on Tuesday, his rating points were down to 2381 from the previous 2439 points.

Tahsin earned five points from eighth round games while another Bangladesh campaigner, IM Manon Reja Neer, earned 4.5 points after a win over FM Krivenko Dion of Estonia in the eighth round.

In ninth round games, Tahsin will play against IM Atanasov Anthony of Canada, while Neer will play against FM Akhilbay Imangali of Kazakhstan.

Despite the day鈥檚 loss, Tahsin still has the chance of achieving his second IM norm from this championship, depending on how many points he can gain in the next three round games, as one needs to earn 2450 rating points for an IM norm.

Tahsin, the son of late Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman, previously earned one of the three required norms to achieve IM status during the Zonal Chess Championship in Dhaka two years ago.
