The White Panel, a platform of Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Jamaat-e-Islami-backed teachers at Dhaka University, has presented an 11-point charter of demands aimed at enhancing education quality and fostering a student-friendly environment in the university.Â
The panel submitted a memorandum detailing these demands to DU vice-chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan Tuesday afternoon.
Their notable demands are ensuring justice for student victims of the July uprising, improving food quality and access to clean drinking water, expanding residential facilities, and ensuring campus safety.
Professor Morshed Hasan Khan, convener of the White Panel, along with joint conveners Professors Abdus Salam and Md Abul Kalam Sarker, and professors Md Mohiuddin of Institute of Business Administration and MA Kawser of history, were present during the submission.
In the memorandum, the White Panel highlighted DU students’ significant role in Bangladesh’s democratic movements, stressing that the university’s education system and infrastructure lag behind modern standards.
Their 11-point demands include implementing a one-student-one-bed policy by constructing new dormitories and renovating existing ones, enhancing food quality and ensuring safe drinking water in residential halls, upgrading classrooms with modern technology, expanding the central library’s resources and keeping it open 24/7, and creating part-time job opportunities for students within the university.
The panel emphasised that Dhaka University played a crucial role in shaping Bangladesh’s intellectual and democratic foundation.
They warned that failure to address these issues would further degrade education quality and student well-being.
Calling for immediate action, they urged the administration to uphold DU’s legacy as the country’s leading institution of higher learning.
