Bangladesh鈥檚 FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia improved his chances to earn another International Master norm after beating Azerbaijan IM Talibov Shiroghlan in the seventh round of the World Junior (Under-20) Chess Championship now being held in Petrovac, Montenegro.

With the current rating of 2431, Tahsin is now tied in third place alongside nine other competitors after his victory over Talibov, who held a rating of 2439 in the seventh round game on Monday.

The 20-year-old, Tahsin, was due to play 2510 rating holder Mexico鈥檚 IM Medina Sion Radamantys in the eighth round on Tuesday.

A win against Medina would elevate Tahsin鈥檚 rating above 2500, and he would then need to avoid defeat in the next two rounds to secure his second IM norm.

Tahsin, the son of late Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman, previously earned one of the three required norms to achieve IM status during the Zonal Chess Championship in Dhaka two years ago.

Meanwhile, Bangladeshi IM Manon Reja Neer earned 3.5 points after he drew with FIDE Master Djurovic Peko of Montenegro in the seventh round.

Neer will face FM Krivenko Dion of Estonia in the forthcoming eighth round.
