The passing out ceremony of 12th聽 batch of pre-sea cadets of International Maritime Academy was held with ceremony at its campus at Pubial in Gazipur on Wednesday.

Seventy-eight cadets of 12th batch have passed out this year from nautical and engineering division.


Mohammed Yousuf, senior secretary, Ministry of Shipping, attended as chief guest while Commodore Mohammad Maksud Alam, director general department of shipping, attended as special guest at the ceremony.

The commandant of the academy, Captain Zaki Ahad, in his welcome address, apprised the audience about the progress being made by the academy to enhance maritime education and training in the private sector.

He also stated the training facilities of the installation.

A ceremonial march past conducted by smartly turned out contingent of cadets followed by an oath taking ceremony.

Vote of thanks by Captain Subrata Kumar Saha, deputy commandant, International Maritime Academy, marked the end of the ceremony.

This is the first permanent institution for maritime training in the private sector.

On March 1, 2010, the International Maritime Academy celebrated the passing out ceremony of its first batch of cadets. Subsequently, 11 batches of cadets and eight batches of ratings passed out from this academy.

Presently, 79 cadets of 14th batch is undergoing training.

The training is conducted as per the syllabus approved by the department of shipping and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University.

On completion of two-year training at the institute, the trainees will join as cadets on foreign-going vessels, managed by M/s Haque and Sons Ltd in reputed foreign flag companies. They will also earn their salary as per international scale.
