Democratic Youth Forum, Hill Women Federation, and Pahari Chhatra Parishad held a protest rally at Cheragi Pahar in Chattogram city on Monday, condemning the arrest of Ringrong Mro, a leader of the Lama Sarai Bhumi Rakkha Sangram Committee.

They demanded immediate release of land protection leader Ringrong Mro, withdrawal of fabricated charges against him and other members of the Mro and Tripura communities, and legal action against Lama Rubber Industries Ltd, said a press release issued by the Pahari Chhatra Parishad.

Pahari Chhatra Parishad general secretary Amol Tripura said that for several years, Lama Rubber Industries had been trying to illegally take over 400 acres of ancestral jhum land from the local Mro and Tripura communities in Lama Sarai, subjecting them to continuous harassment.

‘As part of this, on February 22, police in plain clothes arrested Ringrong Mro, the leader of the Lama Sarai Bhumi Rakkha Sangram Committee, in a fabricated case filed by the company and sent him to prison,’ he added.Â
