Bangladesh Nationalist Party acting chairman Tarique Rahman on Sunday said that the main task of the interim government was to facilitate people in making their political decisions but the government was ‘deviating somewhat’ from its goals.
‘We are noticing that in the conversations of various individuals in the government and from the discussions of different people that they are perhaps deviating from their goals to some extent,’ Tarique said while virtually addressing a workshop on 31-point organised by the Dhaka Bar Nationalist Lawyers Forum at the Dhaka Bar Association auditorium.
He said that statements from those in the government caused confusion in several ways and it was natural that confusion in politics would lead to instability.
‘If we fail to ensure political stability, no matter how many reforms we announce, no matter how many policies we adopt, none of them will bring success,’ Tarique said.
He said that unstable politics would affect the economy and the economy would impact everything.
‘If we delay the functioning of the parliament, instability and debate will continue to spread outside it. The more it spreads, the greater the instability will become, affecting everything from the economy to the social situation, ultimately harming the country as a whole,’ Tarique mentioned.
The BNP leader mentioned that many people questioned whether all problems would be solved after the election. Instead of agreeing with this view, he said that after the election, a stable situation would emerge and reform efforts would gradually begin with the intensity of the problems slowly decreasing.
What is acceptable worldwide is bringing political unrest, discussions and debates in the parliament, he said.
Parliament was the most important place where all discussions and decisions should take place, Tarique iterated.
